A conceptual schema, or High-level data model or conceptual data model, is a map of concepts and their relationships, for example, a conceptual schema for a karate studio would include abstractions such as student, belt, grading and tournament.

The next step towards creating a database design, after a conceptual schema is produced, is a logical schema.

Concepts

  • Abstraction (a class of something)
  • Physical object (an instance of a Class)

Relationships

  • A is a B and B has a A
  • A contains B
  • A requires B
