Drug agonism occurs where on drug enhances the actions of another. This may be a mechanism in drug overdose.

The agonistic effect may occur due to:

  • One drug mimicing the effects of the other
  • It may interfere with the normal physiological processes of deactivation of the other drug in the body.
    • It may, for example, enable the retention of the other drug in the body
