Social psychology: Altruism · Attribution · Attitudes · Conformity · Discrimination · Groups · Interpersonal relations · Obedience · Prejudice · Norms · Perception · Index · Outline
Emotion work is a concept with two different meanings.
- Arlie Hochschild in 1983 used it describe the conscious manipulation of feeling to create a publicly observable facial and bodily display (Ragin, 1994).
- Emotion work has also been defined as the management of one's own feelings or as "work done in a conscious effort to maintain the well being of a relationship" [1].
