George W. Hartmann was a social psychologist.

He taught at Teachers College's Foundations of Education, along with John L. Childs, Harold Rugg, R. L. Thorndike, and Goodwin Watson

But he was dismissed from both Teachers College and Harvard University and was hospitalized for acute depression. He briefly returned to Teachers College after the war ended and in 1950 moved to Roosevelt College in Chicago.

In 1955 he committed suicide.
