In the brain the periallocortex is one of three types of allocortex identified through microscopy. The others are the paleocortex and archicortex.
The periallocortex is a transition zone between the neocortex and the allocortex. It has two components: the peripaleocortex and the periarchicortex, which represent the transition zones of the paleocortex and archicortex respectively.
