Main Community Discussion Page

Hi, I've just started this up, with Introductions, things to do for this page, and things to do for the Psychology Wiki as a whole. Please add things to all the sections, esp the intro so we know who you are and what you want to do. Mostly Zen 16:39, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Some note on editing for new people

  • You can edit the page by clicking edit page at the top
  • You can sign your name by typing 3 or 4 of these "~" without the ".
  • You can indent your part of a conversation by typing ":" without the "

Very Active Users

Post your username here with three of these "~" except without the " marks. People can then see your userpage and contact you. Very active users can talk to each other a lot about changes to the overall site and structure.

Redesigning the Community Portal (project page)

Apart from the bits that I've done, what else do people want to see here? What else should we do? What else does it need?

Please leave ideas here or edit the portal yourself as well :) Mostly Zen 16:39, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

What do you want to See on the Psychology Wiki

Please let us know what you want to see on the Wiki. That way we can achieve a kind of consensus of opinion, and then set tasks for the community to achieve.

  • ...Weekly improvement drive: each week, Psychology Wikians could nominate and vote for an article that we can collectively improve upon. We could display our "Improvement drive article" on the Main page.Jaywin 13:04, 16 June 2006 (UTC). You can nominate articles on the improvement drive pageLifeartist 13:28, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
  • ...Article of the week: each week, Psychology Wikians could nominate and vote on what is believed to be an exceptional article and then display it on the Main Page Jaywin 13:04, 16 June 2006 (UTC) You can nominate articles at Featured article candidates page
  • ...Debate of the week: each week, Psychology Wikians could pick a controversial topic in psychology to debate. It could be displayed on the main page with a link to a "debate page" for that specific topic. Jaywin 13:04, 16 June 2006 (UTC) The debating chamber is already to go and can be found in the professional area Lifeartist 13:28, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Cleaning up and making one article a first rate Example for how the site should work

We have copied much information to the site and are already the 5th Largest Wiki overall. At this point it might be a good idea to take stock and clean up one article to an excellent standard, so that it can be used as an advertisement for the potential of the Psychology Wiki, in order to attract more interest, as well as as an example for how to lay out future articles.

Following discussion with Lifeartist, we thought that the best article to do this for would be Depression. So... we need to make Depression and all directly related links really, really good. If we work together it shouldn't be too hard.

Tasks for Psychology Wiki (overall)

  • 1) Provide a clear structure for the whole wiki project.
  • 2) Create portal pages or templates that easily link different areas
  • 3) Continue to add content from Wikipedia
  • 4) Improve the existing articles to an academic standard
  • 5) Fully reference these.
  • 6) link references to fulltext copies of the articles where possible
