Schizophrenogenic mothers were thought to be particularly responsible for developing conditions in which the mother child relationship was a factor in the cause of childhood schizophrenia or the occurence of the condition in later life. This was thought to be mediated, in part. by a particular failure in communication known as double bind interaction
