A school nurse helps students with problems requiring first aid,or students who have cold or flu-like symptoms or other health issues that affect their school work.

The nurse may dispense O.T.C. medication to the students with parental consent, or to any student who is legally an adult according to state laws. The nurse also can dispense prescribed medication under direction of the student's doctor.
