Social Processes: Methodology · Types of test

Symptom validity testing(SVT) is an aspect of neuropsychological testing where separate scales, either embedded in neuropsychological test batteries, or included as additional elements, are used to establish the probability that a given test performance is affected by a tendency to fake bad, fake good or malingering.

So for example a person feigning brain injury in a compensation case may score poorly on cognitive tests as it would be in their interests to do so. So it is important to try to identify where this is occuring, particularly in medico-legal cases.
